Launched June 2005, this blog drives so much traffic that Michael Arrington, the founder, doesn’t need to find startups to write about any more, they come knocking at his door. His powerful influence is definitely felt by many startups in Silicon Valley, as he gives his thumbs up or thumbs down. Make sure you have a solid product and sound business plan before getting written up on TechCrunch. The site is amazing for the sheer amount of information and speed with which the reporting is done. Many times, it has news before any other site. Of course, having insider access helps.

TechCrunch has gained such a following that it even hosts its own summits. In 2006, they had TechCrunch20, where 20 startups are chosen to present their products to a hoard of venture capitalists. This year, with over 700 applicants, they have doubled the venue to 40 startups at TechCrunch40. In fact, Google and several other industry leaders are presenting along with the startup companies.
